Welcome

I'm Mitch Musel, an architectural designer working at the intersection of computational design and physical fabrication. This site walks through my project work, skills, and background — scroll on, or jump to a section below.

About Mitch

Architectural designer who builds what he designs —
and designs systems that scale.

I'm a designer with an M.Arch and a background that spans architectural studio work, computational design workflows, and hands-on physical fabrication. I care about the full chain — from parametric logic to physical outcome and I'm drawn to roles where those things aren't separate.

Currently based in Dallas, I work in the model shop at an architecture firm, where I prototype and fabricate across scales from detail mockups to large presentation models. That proximity to making has sharpened how I think about design: constraints aren't obstacles, they're the starting point.

On the computational side, I work in Rhino and Grasshopper to build and extend parametric workflows; modifying definitions, adapting logic to project constraints, and exploring how geometry can be driven by data and rules rather than manual iteration. I'm actively deepening this practice and see it as central to where architecture is heading.

My path into architecture wasn't straight. I started in mechanical engineering before an architecture theory lecture pulled me sideways in the best way. That background still shows up in how I approach problems: systematically, with an eye for how things actually get built.

I was awarded the Harlyn Thompson Travel Scholarship from NDSU, which funded three weeks of independent research across four European cities; fieldwork that became the foundation of my M.Arch thesis on human-scale urbanism.

I'm currently looking for roles in architectural design and computational workflows, with a preference for teams building at the intersection of design intelligence and real delivery. Excited for the opportunity to relocate: targeting Austin, San Diego, or Seattle but open to others.
